Signs of a Spider Problem

A few spiders here and there are normal, but if you're seeing an unusual number of them, you might have an infestation. Here are some key signs to look out for:

Excessive webs: Finding multiple webs in corners, closets, garages, and attics is a strong indicator. Some spiders, like the American house spider, create messy, tangled webs, while others, like orb weavers, build large, circular ones.

Spider sightings: If you're spotting spiders daily, especially in undisturbed or dark areas, it's a red flag.

Egg sacs: These are small, silken balls that are often hidden in webs or crevices. A single egg sac can contain hundreds of eggs, so finding one means a population increase is imminent.

Other insect activity: Spiders are predators. An abundance of other insects (like flies, ants, and cockroaches) in your home means a readily available food source, which attracts spiders.

DIY Spider Prevention Tips

Effective spider control is an ongoing process of removing both the spiders themselves and the secondary insects they hunt for food. Unlike termites, spiders are less interested in your structure and more interested in where their next meal is hiding.

1. Eliminate the Spider's Food Source (Insects)

  • Maintain meticulous cleanliness, ensuring crumbs and spills are cleaned quickly and food is stored in airtight containers to deny insects their primary attractants.

  • Control other insects (ants, silverfish, flies) by turning off non-essential exterior lights that are less appealing to prey.

2. Seal and Pest Proof All Access Points

  • Conduct a thorough perimeter inspection to seal all gaps and openings where pests enter, using weatherstripping on doors and windows, and caulk/mesh on vents and utility line entries.

  • Repair or replace any damaged window and door screens immediately.

3. Clear Internal and External Hiding Spots

  • Declutter basements, attics, storage areas, and garages, placing stored items into sealed plastic bins instead of cardboard boxes, to eliminate favorite spider hiding zones.

  • Trim back all shrubbery, vines, and tree limbs that are touching the building exterior, which spiders use as bridges to access the structure.

4. Direct Spider Extermination and Web Removal

  • Regularly remove visible spider webs and egg sacs using a vacuum cleaner to stop new generations before they hatch.

Frequently Asked Questions

Spiders often enter your home seeking shelter, warmth, or more importantly, food. A sudden increase in spiders usually indicates a heavy presence of other insects (like ants, flies, or crickets) inside or around your foundation, providing an abundant food source.

Spiders prefer dark, quiet, and undisturbed areas. This includes corners of ceilings, window frames, eaves, cluttered basements, crawl spaces, and attics. Our spider control service targets these specific harborages and nesting sites.

While vacuuming webs helps clean up, it won't solve a true infestation. Spiders, especially the female spiders, often hide egg sacs in those webs. Plus, removing webs doesn't address the underlying issue of entry points or the existing insect food source. Spider exclusion and targeted treatments are necessary for lasting results.

Yes. We use professional-grade treatments applied strategically to spider habitats and exterior entry points. We minimize risk by focusing on cracks, crevices, and outdoor perimeters, and we always follow strict safety guidelines to protect your loved ones during our residential pest control service.
